This light shampoo cleans scalp, hair and there is no build up whatsoever. I love it and have used it for a very long time.

new formula an itchy disappointment

I used the old formula for years and loved it. I was not a huge fan of the rose scent and was excited when the new one came out. While I really liked the new scent, unfortunately the new formula made my scalp incredibly itchy and so I am unable to use it. Such a disappointment, the old formula was the best. I wish I knew which ingredient my scalp doesn’t like. Something in the rescue remedy shampoo causes the same reaction, while silk bloom does not. Bring back the old formula, I’ll even take the rose scent!

Best shampoo

Tried the whole line today this shampoo is absolutely beautiful it lathers well & makes my hair so shiny and soft I feel like it seals my hair. And is very lightweight it’s the best shampoo I’ve used. & I’ve tried all kerastase oribe etc and shu uemura beats them all I’m obsessed 🙌 please don’t ever discontinue this line it’s my holy grail

No longer buying this shampoo owing to change in the formula

I used this shampoo for about eight years until recently. The formula has changed and the shampoo is now clear rather than white. The new formula doesn’t lather well at and leaves my hair looking dull. I’ve stopped buying it and I’m disappointed as it was the best shampoo for me.

Bring back brilliant glaze please!!!!

Please bring back the old formula. I used the old formula for almost 8 years. the new one is AWFUL. The scent is horrific, the formula leaves my hair dry and brittle. So upset as I use so many products from your brand but considering finding another line altogether.

Left my hair looking like the "before" pic :(

This product made my hair so frizzy and hard to work with; it actually looks like the "before" picture in the description. It reminds me of joico products, which are way too much protein for my hair. I can't even comb through it, and the conditioner didn't help at all. I had to put olaplaex leave in on it after I shampooed AND conditioned just to be able to comb through it. then I had to add a frizz-free styling cream and now my hair is sticky and feels dry. This is way too pricey of a product to not be able to return or exchange for one that's more appropriate for my hair type. I'm so disappointed. I have blond, color-treated wavy hair that's in great condition but it now looks like cotton candy. I could barely even rinse it all out. Also, the fragrance is unpleasant and way too strong.

Formula has changed

Formula has changed. When I initially started using this shampoo, a dollop the size of a quarter would lather up your entire head. now, the consistency has clearly changed. it is no longer rich and thick. It has also changed in color from a creamy pearl color to a clear see through amber color. it's basically bottled baby shampoo and smells like it too. what a shame when a company changes its product to cut cost. even worse, they don't tell U about it..

Bad experience with color lustre shampoo

I have been using color lustre shampoo for about 10 years and I was very happy with this product. The new formulation is really poor. It requires much more product and also the hair is greasy and not shiny. Please go back to the old formulation.

Please bring back the original - new one is so bad.

There’s no comparing this new formula to the older formula. They are entirely different shampoos. I gave it six months leaving this review. My hair is drier, and using this new formula is the only thing that’s changed. I used the original for 8 years. You need more product to make it lather, and can tell it’s not as hydrating. I was willing to spend the money because this shampoo was the very best, but this new one - no way. If anyone has found a good replacement please leave in a review!

Please bring back old formula!!

I was a long time user of my favorite shampoo, the Color lustre. My mother and I used it for years and it was by far the best! This new formula is awful! I had a greasy residue and my hair felt limp and dirty, yet dry. PLease please please bring back the old formula. This is unusable to me. The only good reviews are incentivized! Not from long time users of the product.

Very disappointed...

I am really very disappointed about the new formula as Many Others as well. I don't understand way you changed it. BEFORE IT WAS JUST PERFECT AND NOW I'LL HAVE TOOK FOR SOMETHING ELSE. Need to go back to the old formula!

really a shame they changed the formula. The old one I used for years and loved it. Ive found that with the new one it doesn’t lather like the old one. It takes a lot more shampoo to achieve the same effect, making me going through the bottle faster. I’ve also been having some really bad dry scalp issues with this one, never had them before with the old formula.

This was not a good reformulation!

The change in this product is not good! The formula does not work like the old formula and you would be doing your product line a good thing by changing back. This does not make your hair as silky or smooth as the original product and now I have to return an unused bottle and look for another product that will work like the old formula. So sad

Long time user: so disappointed in new formula

I've been using this shampoo since 2016. I loved the original rose scent and always got compliments on it. It has kept my hair healthy and shiny and thick for almost a decade now. I ordered again recently and didn't see that the formula had been completely changed. The liquid is clear now, dries out my hair, and the new scent gives me a headache. I am very sensitive to scents so I have to pick my products carefully. I'm so disappointed that I will have to find a new shampoo and conditioner set now. Please change it back!

Has the Color formula changed?

Now I feel Iike I’m not the only one…I have been using the Color lasting shampoo and its treatment line for about 5 years. I loved it! AND I miss it! Seems my last two purchases are missing something - the lather, the silken softness and lasting color expectation. I’m ordering ONE MORE TIME in hopes that maybe I’ll experience the reason why I have remained faithful for so long. Fingers crossed.

Long time user! So sad…..

LONG TIME USER - I greatly dislike this new formula and scent combination for color treated hair. I’ve been using this shampoo and conditioner for more than a decade, so I was disheartened when I opened the recent bottles I bought and found a different formula and scent. The shampoo is too drying now that it’s a clear formula- the old version was creamy and hydrating.

Reformulated Color Lustre

Let me say that I have been a devoted user of the Color Lustre line for many years. No other shampoo gave my hair the same shine and silky feel. I also loved the creamy consistency and subtle fragrance. Unfortunately, the new formulation has a very strong, almost overpowering fragrance. It is clear rather than milky and feels less moisturizing and nourishing to my hair. I prefer the original formula.

Just not the same

This new formula doesn’t seem to be as good as the previous one. It seems to require more shampoo to make a good lather. My hair seems to have more flyaways than before. I’m really annoyed because I loved the previous formula(s?). I’ve been using it for over 10 years. Now I feel like I have to look for something else, which takes time, effort and money. :-(

Why in the world would you change the formula???!!!!

Super disappointed that the original color lustre shampoo (Brilliant Glaze) was replaced with this. Why, when the original was the best? Please bring back the original. Original was more moisturizing and made my hair overall feel softer and healthier. I emailed the company to see if original one is still available to purchase but no one has gotten back to me.

Use with system

I do wonder, however, if it does not have the same effect on cheap box hair dye. I am due to get professional color soon and will continue to use. Purchase at your own risk but I hope with continue use, I change my mind. I do recommend use along with mask and especially color sealer spray.

New formula review , longtime original user

Longtime user of the original version, the new formula is good but not great. The original version was my go-to for nearly a decade, loyal repeat customer. Major differences are (1) they changed the scent to a musky floral (reminds me of Izumi) (2) shampoo is lighter, cleaner feeling (3) conditioner feels thicker, still easy to wash and comb out (4) after drying my hair feels heavier with product than the old formula. Hair does not feel as light and look as shiny as the original made it. I’m blonde with fine but full hair, shoulder length. At least I still have some original formula samples to savor! I’ll be playing around with different combos of their shampoos and conditioners , I suspect it’s the new formula conditioner that is the issue. I especially miss the original scent!

Honestly shook

Not the same great product

This is nothing like the product it replaced, which was creamy and rich and lightly scented. The new color lustre smells like a cheap salon or lharmacy product and its too lightweight in consistency to feel like the luxurious shampoo I enjoyed using. Nowhere near an equivalent replacement- why try to label it as such?! And again, NO warning that this product was being reformulated- I would have stocked up on the original product I trusted. Almost as disappointing as when Fiber lift volumizer gel was stopped. Except now I know I can shop anywhere else because shu is no longer anything special or luxury-consumer oriented. Although the high prices are baffling for the texture, smell and performance.

My new HG!

I've been dyeing my dirty blonde hair jet black for years… I'm always trying to keep it from fading and constantly maintaining my roots. So, when it comes to hair products that promise color protection - I'm super picky and always on the hunt for the latest and greatest. I've been using the shampoo, conditioning treatment, and color sealer spray for several weeks now after receiving a sample. The Color Protecting Shampoo is The BOMB. Not only does it provide color protection, it's also super moisturizing and it lathers like crazy. Usually when I get a sulfate free shampoo it's lacking in lather, but this stuff is all kinds of sudsy. I like feeling my shampoo is actually, well, shampooing! My hair feels so silky afterwards and then using the color protecting treatment seals the moisture in. Also, the packaging is so gorgeous and I smell like I've walked out of a hair salon. Definitely worth the price tag!

Great Color Protector

Really great color safe shampoo.

It gave a good comparison to my usual "color safe" shampoo. First off, the packaging seems very luxe, and the scent is spa like but slightly musky. While this shampoo doesn't lather as much as many shampoos, it seems about on par with other sulfate free shampoos that I have tried. My hair is left feeling clean but not stripped. As for the color protection, I did find that my color did not fade as quickly as it usually does. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this shampoo, at first glance it is pricy but the color protection is worth it as I didn't need a touch up as quickly as usual.

Color protecting shampoo

My hair was dyed red and after numerous washes, the color still stayed strong. It also provides more hydration to my hair since being stripped with chemicals in the dyes. The bottle itself is so sleek and pretty, my only issue with it is that the spout is too wide and the shampoo is very liquidy so it tends to spill out more than necessary. Leaves hair feeling clean without the dryness

Since I was getting my hair cut and dyed I figured it was the perfect time to test this line out! Right from first use I loved the smell and how soft it left my hair. The scent could be a little strong for some so definitely recommend smelling in person before purchasing. It has been two weeks of testing this out and so far I feel like it's helped my hair stay hydrated and my stubborn grays don't seem to be peeking out as fast. Overall I would purchase again purely for the way it leaves my hair and I do like the smell. A little shampoo goes a long way in getting my hair clean and it never leaves that dry feeling either. Using all three products after a fresh styling was key in keeping the color looking vibrant longer.

Love the whole line!

Nice!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What I like the most about this shampoo is that it is not too strong, as in it doesn't strip my hair of all its natural oils. About it being color protecting, I haven't noticed a difference between this shampoo and other color protecting shampoos. The only thing people might have a problem with is the scent. The scent is nice but the musk in it does make it overpowering for those with sensitive noses.

This color lustre shampoo is working wonderfully for my hair

I like how it dispenses and it doesn't take up space in my bathroom area. This washes out easily and my hair felt healthier and touchably soft. I find it doesn't fade my colored hair, versus other brands I've used before.

Add shine to colored hair and well done on color protection

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Been using it for few weeks now, both me and my mom agreed on how good it was when it comes to hair color protection. We barely notice any color fading while using this combo from Shu uemura. I personally love the scent and love how my hair feels super smooth and glossy after the shower. It created lots of foam in one pump, I have moderate thick hair but the shampoo and conditioner last me a long time.

I recommend this shampoo

My hair tends to be oily and this shampoo didn't make it greasy the next day like many others, which I consider a huge plus. A small minus for me is the smell, absolutely not my scent. By the way, it's very economical, although my hair is below my shoulder blades.

Very helpful for redheads

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using this shampoo, conditioner and leave in for about 3 weeks and it's keeping my red hair looking great. Reds can be notorious for fading and getting off tones to them but this is helping significantly with those issues. It lathers really well, which for a shampoo without sulphates is awesome. Others I've tried didn't lather at all, it was like rubbing cream in my hair that never felt clean. My only complaint about the products is the scent is very heavy. It's a very floral scent that I can smell on my hair for hours after washing. I don't particularly love floral scents but I got used to it.

This is a must have for colored hair

A little goes a long way

I have dark brown curly hair but the ends are lighter so I dye it brown to keep it uniform. This shampoo has a light scent which I appreciate and I don't notice any brown dye coming out of my hair when I use this product. It's pricy but a little goes a long way!

Scent can be a hit or miss

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wasn't a huge fan of the shampoo scent. I think it's an acquired taste or maybe it gets dulled out by other hair products you may use. The shampoo itself was pretty good, It left my hair feeling clean, soft and preserved my color well enough. I recently dyed my hair dark brown from level 9 blonde highlights jfyi. Although, it did nothing to moisturize my scalp, I can't blame the shampoo too much. I lean on a drier scalp that develops dry flakes very easily. I would recommend if you're in the need of a high quality shampoo to help preserve your color and leave it feeling healthy.

A must have for color treated beauties

Luxury Hair Spa in a bottle

Works great, smells amazing

Used together, my brown hair color remained shiny, bright and just as hydrated as the day I left the salon. I wash my hair twice a week and have been using the color sealer spray on damp hair afterwards. It leaves it soft, silky and refreshed, without feeling greasy, dry or heavy.
